Stuff the Bus

ST. LUCIE COUNTY-United Way of St. Lucie County held its Annual Stuff the Bus event on July 20th from 9 am – 3 pm. It was a one day push for collection of school supplies at all local Walmart locations in St. Lucie County. Volunteers assisted with collecting school supplies, serving in 2-hour shifts at the Walmart of their choosing.

The volunteers collected supplies purchased by customers who were shopping. They passed out flyers to the patrons, collected the supplies and donations, and counted the supplies as they came in. This year, United Way collected 4,762 items and $1,574.54 cash donations, which is a 31 percent increase in items and 38 percent increase in cash donations from last year’s efforts.

Thank you to The Lindsay School of the Arts and Communities Connected for Kids for managing the Gatlin Blvd, St. Lucie West Blvd, and US-1 Walmart locations. United Way utilizes these supplies in the Tools for School St. Lucie Program. Tools for Schools is a free teacher resource store where teachers can come and shop for the supplies needed by students in their classrooms. Great way to impact the students directly!

United Way will be hosting a Back to School event for St. Lucie Public School teachers to receive supplies before the first day of school. Volunteers are needed to shop with the teachers, restock the shelves and bag up the items. It’s August 5th – 8th from 9 AM – 3 PM and Saturday, August 10th from 9 AM – 3 PM at the Logistics Center - 3855 S US Highway 1, Suite C, Fort Pierce.
